The LaBella lab had several major accomplishments as we closed out the Fall 2025 semester
Caroline West wins the Three Minute Thesis Competition
PhD student Caroline West placed first in the 3MT competition at UNC Charlotte. She presented a short summary of her work on phase separation in a talk titled "My liquids don't like your liquids."
In addition to a cash prize, Caroline will travel to compete at the regional 3MT Competition at the Conference of Southern Graduate Schools.

Mehrnoush Fereydouni is awarded a Master's Fellowship.
Master's student Mehrnoush Fereydouni was selected as an awardee of the Master's and Certificate Research in Bioinformatics (MACRIB) award. Mehrnoush will continue her work on human evolutionary genetics next semester.
Welcome Audrey Ward!
This semester, we welcomed Audrey Ward as the new postdoctoral scholar in the lab. She brings expertise in yeast genomics and has already conducted several exciting experiments in the lab.

Master's students Isha Jain and Abhishek Kasula graduate!
Congratulations to Isha Jain and Abhishek Kasula on their graduation this semester! Both students are wrapping up manuscripts to highlight their amazing work in the lab. We all look forward to seeing the amazing things these students will accomplish.
Earlier this year, Isha also won best poster at the Charlotte Biomedical Symposium. Both students presented their work at the Evolution conference in Athens, Georgia. Abhi also presented his work at the South Eastern Branch of the American Society for Microbiology meeting.
