Fungi play many roles in our world
From biotechnology to food production, fungi can act as both friend and foe. Some fungi make great pizza toppings while others can cause serious disease.
Fungi, they are just like us
Scientists used to classify fungi as plants. Then they looked closer and realized fungi are so different from plants , and so similar to animals , that they needed their own whole kingdom.

What are
yeast?

Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Common single celled yeast
Candida albicans
Pathogenic yeast that can form multicellular hyphae
Yeasts are single-celled fungi. The yeasts we study belong to a group called the Saccharomycotina. However, these "yeast" aren't always single-celled! All rules in biology are made to be broken
